Artist/Music Video Analysis - Lorde

I have researched the artist Lorde to possibly use for my music video. Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor (also known as Lorde which is her stage name) is 18 years old creating music within the art/indie pop genre which is slightly different to the other artists I have researched closely into however I feel that my music video will fit with this genre and style.
The music video I have chosen to analyse is a very popular video and song by Lorde which I will pick up ideas for the camera angles, lighing and mise-en-scene. It is directed by Joel Kefali. The video for "Royals" mostly consists of normal teenagers doing unexceptional things in slow motion.

Camera Angles.
The camera angles in this shot represent the music video to be very minimalistic and simple. However, they are composed very well due to the fact that most of the still camera angles are used more than once within the video as these pictures show. The shots are not followed by each other, they are added into the video from between 30 seconds to two minutes apart. The simplistic shots like this are usually shown for up to 5 seconds then shown further on in the video to have changed slightly by adding a prop/person/zooming out of the shot.
The shots of the artist lip-syncing to the song are also very alike to the simplistic shots by having her against a plain wall, with the artist as the main focus. I like this composition for a music video as it is not too distracting for people to be watching and they are able to focus on the music. The shots of Lorde are usually switched between a close up, mid shot and a shot from her head to her shoulders.

Mise-En-Scene
The lighting throughout this video is very natural and bright, as it is mainly filmed in daylight to make it look like an 'everyday' occurance.

The costume/make-up used in this music video includes very basic clothing, such as Lorde wearing a plain white tshirt and a gold necklace which is considered as 'fashionable' and 'trendy'. Lorde is only showing her face and upper half throughout the video therefore that is all that is needed to be considered for her costume. Her hair and make-up is very stylish too, with big curly hair and fashionable dark eye make-up which suggests she may be different from other artists but has her own style. The costume for the boys included in the video is very basic as they are only wearing shorts and boxing gloves with no tshirt as they are acting as the room is a boxing ring. They are often shown without tshirts on. A silver chain is featured in the music video a couple of times which may suggest a meaning within the video.

Analysis
The lyrics of this song are very meaningful, therefore I researched the meanings of this and found that the lyrics suggest that Lorde doesn't care much for diamonds, jewels, money, jet planes, islands etc and living the high life. However the lyrics mention that she has 'no postcode envy' suggesting that she's not proud of where she used to live however she wouldn't change it. Also,  'even though these people don't have enough - they're still happy and able to live their lives, even though society tells them that they should live a certain way and try to strive for something else.' (found on songmeanings.com). It also suggests that she knows she will never be 'royal'.
